Wondering what recreational soccer in Windsor is all about? How much does it cost? How much time does it take? Here are a few of our Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question that is not answered here, please e-mail it to info@windsorsoccer.com
When will online registration for the 2009 recreational season begin?
Online registration is currently ongoing. It will be available, with a late fee, until June 30, 2009.
Where are you located?
Windsor, California. We never thought that we would have to answer this question, but we have received inquiries, and actual registrations from Windsor, Connecticut and Windsor, Ontario.
Who can play?
Any boy or girl born between August 1, 1990 and July 31, 2005.
Do they have to live in Windsor?
No. There are no boundary restrictions on where the player lives. (Though Windsor, CT and Windsor, Ontario are long commutes)
How are the players selected?
They simply sign up. This is Class IV Recreational Soccer. There are no try-outs. Every player plays. There are seven age groups for each gender: Under-6, Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16 and Under-19.
How are the age groups determined? The child's "League Age" for registration is their age on July 31, 2009. As an example, if your child's birthday is September 1, 2001, he should be entered in U8, even though he will be 8 during the season, he was Under 8 on July 31. Please refer to the following matrix if you are unsure:
U6---Birthdate between August 1, 2003 and July 31, 2005
U8---Birthdate between August 1, 2001 and July 31, 2003
U10---Birthdate between August 1, 1999 and July 31, 2001
U12---Birthdate between August 1, 1997 and July 31, 1999
U14---Birthdate between August 1, 1995 and July 31, 1997
U16---Birthdate between August 1, 1993 and July 31, 1995
U19---Birthdate between August 1, 1990 and July 31, 1993
Or if this still confuses you (as it does us), ask yourself how old your child will be on July 31, 2009. Take their age on that day, add 1, and put a U in front of it to determine which group to put them in.
I have a 3 year old that wants to play. Can s/he?
No. We're sorry, but the California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA) requires that all players in the U6 Age Group turn 4 on or before July 31, 2009. Please do not bother contacting us to ask for any exceptions to this rule. There are NO exceptions to this rule allowed.
How do I demonstrate proof of age?
All new players must submit a copy of their birth certificate as proof of age upon registration. The only exceptions are those U14 and older players who played for Windsor last year and already submitted a copy of their birth certificate. If you register at walk-in, please bring a copy of your child's birth certificate. If you register online, you will be asked to mail or deliver a copy of your child's birth certificate to the League Registrar. You may hand-deliver the paperwork to the box labeled WYSL on the front porch, at 7637 Baldocchi Way, Windsor, or mail it to WYSL Registrar at the mailing address given below.
How do you sign up?
Either online, using this site, or in-person at the dates and times shown in the Events Calendar. In-Person Registration for the 2009 Season will be April 25th, May 6th, and May 23rd at the Windsor Community Center.
Why am I required to provide the month and day of the player's mother's birthdate?
This information is required by the CYSA, our parent organization, in order to create a unique identification number for the player.
I don't want to give my credit card or check information online. Can I still register online?
Yes. Sort of. While we believe that this process is very safe, we understand your concerns. You may go through the online registration process all the way to the last step, which is the payment portion. Prior to payment, simply log out. Your information will remain in the system. Then you may go to walk-in registration and pay by check or cash.
How much does it cost?
U6 and U8: $100
U10 and U12: $110
U14/U16/U19: $120
What is your mailing address?
WYSL
8868 LAKEWOOD DRIVE #272
WINDSOR, CA 95492
When does the season start?
Practice can start on August 1, 2009. Opening Day Ceremonies and Picture Day are both scheduled for August 29, 2009. There are no games or activities on Labor Day Weekend. Most teams practice two times per week during August. During September and early October, there are usually two games per week--one on Saturday and one on a weeknight. Some of the older age groups play on Sunday instead of Saturday. After mid-October, there will be one game per week on Saturday (or Sunday for some older groups) until the season ends in early November.
What is a "Volunteer Fee"?
A Volunteer Fee is a mandatory deposit paid to the League which is refunded to each family upon completion of 2 hours of volunteer duty and the submission of the Volunteer Rebate Form. Only one fee is required per family.
I cannot afford the Volunteer Fee / I do not have time to volunteer.
We are sorry, but a lot of thought went into the decision to institute this fee. Unfortunately, we have been so short of volunteers that many jobs do not get done. We need to strongly encourage people to volunteer. We also need to pay for certain services if we do not get enough volunteers. Many Board Members, Coaches, and parents do far more than their fair share. We are only asking for 2 hours of time. This is less than the time you spend taking your child to and from practice.
Do I have to volunteer?
No, but you will forefeit your deposit. We will use this money to help pay for services such as field lining, trash patrol, certain Board duties, etc.
